I’m thinking about going out tonight. Might hang out with some friends or something. 

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “But Andrew! You just went out three weeks ago! Are you sure you have the energy to go out AGAIN?!” 

I know, right! But I’m what you might call a “social butterfly.” Sometimes I have the urge to go out twice in the same month. Chalk it up to my famous youthful energy, I suppose. 

Apparently there’s a pumpkin carving contest at our Eagles club tonight. I don’t plan on participating, but I can definitely see myself wandering around, sipping a whiskey, and getting super judgy about other people’s pumpkins. Plus, they might put a Halloween-inspired movie on the bar TV, and that can be fun, too. In fact, that’s one of the only ways I can watch scary movies these days: With the sound muted, a lot of people around me, and a bartender who can embrace me if I get too scared. (To be fair, I haven’t cleared this with the bartender yet, but I think he’s cool with it.) 

A lot of people think I hate scary movies, but that’s not true. I only hate the scary parts. I actually love the beginning of most scary movies. A bunch of young folks just hanging out at a lake cabin for the weekend, playing board games, singing songs, living, laughing, loving? Heck yeah, put it in my veins!

My problem with these kinds of films is that they can never stay nice. They always have to have something awful happen that ruins the good time. Some masked madman with an ax and a bunch of childhood trauma has to come and scare the living heck out of everyone. Someone almost always ends up getting hurt or worse. And the entire lake weekend is RUINED. 

If I were a filmmaker, I would just let the good vibes roll for the whole movie. Two hours into the movie, everyone is still having a good time. Maybe (to keep it interesting) someone accidentally burns a frozen pizza, and then they have to drive into town to get a new one. But the town is close by and easy to access. Let’s not turn this into some kind of Indiana Jones adventure flick! 

I’ve written to all the big name horror directors -- Carpenter, Craven, Peele, Baumbach -- to offer my opinions on this matter, but nobody seems willing to listen. In fact, the only person who even bothered to write back was Rob Zombie, who sent me a signed copy of an apparent script he’s working on called “Cease and Desist”. It was also signed by his lawyers. I got to say, that kind of fan service goes a long way!

So, yeah. Anyway, I’m thinking about going to the Eagles tonight. Also, I didn’t have much TBTL-related news to report this week.

Andrew: Incantation by Leeni

Sometimes things just time out perfectly. Take yesterday, for example: I’d just wrapped-up a rather long day and was ready to relax, throw some darts, and listen to some music. I was in the process of picking out a record when I suddenly got a notification from Bandcamp alerting me that our pal, Leeni, had just posted a brand new track. I hit “play”, and fell in love immediately. In fact, I think I listened to this song 6 or 7 times in a row last night. It just hit perfectly. It’s (more than?) a little spooky, which is befitting of the season and my current mood. I’m not someone who knows much about electronic music, so I’ll spare you my description of the song. But I hope you’ll give it a spin (or 6 or 7 spins) and -- if you love it as much as I do -- maybe buy a digital copy on Bandcamp to support our friend and one of Seattle’s most exciting musicians!

I feel like I might finally be suggesting a song you and the Tens will like! Did you know both Kate Pierson of the B-52s and someone named Katy J Pearson released new albums last year? Sad to report the OG Kate's album is . . . not for me, but out of curiosity I checked out this Katy J Pearson, and her record is pretty enjoyable. The closing track, 'Sky,' in particular has a sweet, sleepy, smoothed-out-Courtney-Barnett vibe that I feel like you'd dig.

What’s your name and where do you live? 

Susan Goodwin. Seattle, WA.

When did you start listening to TBTL? How did you find the show?

It was probably within a month of the radio show's existence.  I was working a later shift for a week and tuned into KIRO to have something on in the background. I remember thinking the show was so pleasantly weird and delightful. I was hooked at that point and have been a TEN since.

How would your friends describe you?

I think my friends would say I am empathetic and unique. They would probably also say I can be opinionated with a hint of stubbornness when it comes to music, horror movies and baseball. The three loves of my life.

What was your favorite cereal when you were a kid?Is it still your fav? 

As a kiddo....frosted mini wheats. Now...it's all about the granola.

What food do you love to eat the most of?

Chocolate, any chocolate will do....

What’s the best or worst nickname you ever had?

Knuckles is the funniest nickname I have had. I was in a slow motion bar fight in my younger days and came out of it with cuts on my knuckles from falling on the ground, not from coming in contact with anyone else. I tried fighting once and failed. It's not for me.

If you could play one song on TBTL, what would it be?

What’s a special skill that you have?

I attend A LOT of concerts. Is that a skill?

What’s a skill you *wish* you had?

I wish I could play guitar. I've tried but I think my fingers are just too short.  It's really very tragic.

If you were driving down the street and you saw Luke and Andrew on the sidewalk, what would you yell at them as you drove past?

I would most likely just wave with enthusiasm.
