We know it’s somewhere in America. We know it’s in a state that Luke and I almost hitchhiked through. And we know (or we think we know) that it has something to do with Bono saying “I don’t mean to bug ya!” 

And now, today, we have another clue in the Great TBTL Billboard Hunt!

Hello, by the way. It’s me, Andrew, from the Too Beautiful To Live podcast. I hope this email finds you well.

In case you haven’t been following this adventure as closely as the rest of us, let me catch you up: 

Luke, Jon and I have purchased ad space on a billboard somewhere. It’s not in Seattle, because it was too expensive here. So we found a more affordable location. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to guess where our billboard is going to be. 

We received news recently that the billboard could go up early…possibly as early as this weekend! So if you’re really invested in winning this contest, you could just start driving around America right now in hopes of stumbling upon it. Otherwise, you have to rely on the same four clues as everyone else. I listed the first three clues above. Here’s Jon with the fourth:

Now, I mentioned “winning” this contest earlier, but I’ve failed to explain what that means, exactly. 

If you are the very first person to identify the specific location of the billboard (we’re looking for  the name of a city, town, or municipality), then you will receive a custom-made miniature of the TBTL billboard that we designed ourselves. We might even sign it, if there’s room. 

Submit your guesses to Jon via email only. Any other submissions are likely to slip through the cracks. 

That’s it, Gumshoes! You have your work cut out for you. If we don’t get a correct answer this week, Jon will be back next Friday for the fifth and final clue.

Also -- and I can’t stress this enough -- don’t spend too much time trying to make that Bono clue make sense. It’s really not that helpful, and I’m already dreading how angry you are going to be when you find out what it means. And I hate being hollered at.

Andrew: Tenderness By Parquet Courts

If you were to ask me if I’m a fan of Parquet Courts, I would say, “Of course I am!” But the truth is, I’m only really familiar with one album (2014’s Sunbathing Animal.) A quick glance at the band’s Spotify numbers, though, shows that most folks are drawn to their 2018 record, Wide Awake! I’ve finally taken the time to dive into it myself, and boy have I been missing out! This song, Tenderness, might be the most popular song off the album, and it’s hard to deny it’s catchiness -- especially for a band that can lean towards the abrasive at times. I recommend turning the volume up on your headphones as you wander around your neighborhood with a little extra bounce in your step.

Listener Eric: Why Do You Hang Around Me? By The Liverbirds

As a lifelong Beatles fan, I was shocked and delighted to learn that there was an all female rock band called the Liverbirds that played the same clubs as them, but are almost completely unknown today for some reason (sexism perhaps?) Check them out, and check out their Complete Recordings on Spotify. They rock! (New York Times Documentary: “We're Britain's First Female Rock Band. This is Why You Don't Know Us.”)

What’s your name and where do you live?

When did you start listening to TBTL? How did you find the show?
I don't remember how I heard about it. I was walking for weight loss and discovered podcasts. Could have been 2008? Have listened to EVERY episode since then. Lots of times I’m listening at bedtime, so I fall asleep and miss the end. :(

After all these years I feel like I know you guys and that we are friendos!!

How would your friends describe you?
Funny, fat and friendly.

What was your favorite cereal when you were a kid? Is it still your fav? 
Either Cap'n Crunch with crunch berries or Peanut Butter Crunch. Still love them, but don't eat sugary cereal much. Until she passed away, my mother would give me a box of Cap’n Crunch with crunch berries for Christmas every year as an adult.

What food do you love to eat the most of?
Pizza.

What’s the best or worst nickname you ever had?
Fat Albert as a kid. I hated it. My four grandkids call me Bubba.

If you could play one song on TBTL, what would it be?
You Might Die Trying by Dave Matthews Band.

What’s a special skill that you have?
I can make most anyone smile.

What’s a skill you *wish* you had?
I've always wanted to be able to play guitar.

If you were driving down the street and you saw Luke and Andrew on the sidewalk, what would you yell at them as you drove past?
What you guys do is so important!
