Because of scheduling, logistics, and something that my doctor has diagnosed as “extreme, acute laziness”, we’re keeping today’s newsletters no-frills and no-nonsense. Your favorite features like the Hey Dummies video, the Ten of the Week segment, and listener-submitted Music For Your Weekend suggestions will be back next week. Today, we’re just going to focus on the important stuff; Namely, some of the upcoming TBTL events that listeners have been organizing. You might have heard us talk about some of these plans in the latest installment of the TBTL Community on today’s podcast. But in case you missed any of the details, you now have them in an easy-to-read newsletter format. TBTL BOOK CLUB Listener Cecelia has been organizing book clubs for listeners interested in getting together via Zoom to talk lit. She says: “The TBTL Book Club will meet again in May - not Mother's Day weekend - but details on the date to come. Please alert the Tens to our chosen book so they have time to request it from their local library. You might have heard of the book -- ‘Sirens Call’ by TBTL Senior Bidet Correspondent Chris Hayes. It’s the perfect opportunity for Tens to come to the zoom and share what TBTL-drop inspired inscription he wrote in their book. No mountain of books next to reading chair too tall!” NO BUSINESS TO SMALL, AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL Listener Ciara, one of our favorite artists and a proud Cinncina-Ten, says: “Several months ago I started a ‘Tens Shop Small’ channel on the TBTL Slack page. I thought it would be awesome to start a new space where Tens could make posts about their small businesses, and other Tens can support them. Right now I know a lot of us are searching for ways to help each other or help communities that are being negatively affected by the current administration, and putting economic power behind each other’s small businesses is a very practical way we all can make a difference.” FOOD LIFELINE Listener Annie in Seattle has been organizing a great opportunity for folk who want to volunteer and help the community. Here’s Annie’s note: “I'm hoping you can help spread the word to the Tens about the next opportunity to volunteer at Food Lifeline! We had a blast doing it back in March and the consensus was it would be a great thing to do on a somewhat regular basis. Come hangout with fellow Tens and give back to the greater Seattle community by volunteering at Food Lifeline in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood on Saturday, May 31. From 9–11 am we’ll sort and repack nutritious food to feed our neighbors who may be experiencing food insecurity. Back in March we had 19 Tens and Elevens show up to repack and sort 2,608 pounds of rice in about 1.5 hours. You must sign up in advance via Food Lifeline’s volunteer program.There are 20 spots and volunteers must be 10 or older.
