They’re not rants, and they’re not raves. They’re not cheers, and they’re not jeers. We’re calling them the TBTL YAYS AND NAYS, and I couldn’t be more pleased to share them with you!

Hello, by the way, and welcome to the Friday newsletter. This is Andrew. I hope this email finds you well.

Weird image of a person in head-to-tow long robes in a stone cave somewhere typing onto a weird computer system built into the stone.

The love that Luke and I share for the Seattle Times’ “Rants and Raves” column is well documented, even when the submissions seem to be (pardon the expression) total hogwash. (We discussed this incredibly dubious Costco story on Monday’s episode.)

So, we decided to create our own similar column for TBTL! And what better place for Tens to share their grievances and graciousness than right here in the weekly newsletter. We put out the call, and you answered!

In the tradition of all “rants and raves”-style columns, we’re keeping these anonymous. I should also note that I’ve edited some of these for style and length.

Shall we begin?

NAY to the family of three able-bodied people playing on their phones as the busy employee at Trader Joe's bagged all their groceries without bothering to help, even though every cashier had long lines of customers.

YAY to my neighborhood coffee proprietor, Kyle at Cold Front Coffee, for being up for a friendly conversation when I go get a latte.

NAY to King and Associates Cariology for putting an absolutely disgusting billboard with a picture of a huge, rotting foot next to my office. (The sign says “Prevent Foot Loss” and includes a number to call.) I have to see this nasty-ass foot every day leaving work. The business underneath is a medical marijuana dispensary, so all the people with PTSD and anxiety can drive up and see this abomination.

NAY to the HR director at the small hospital where I work. Our beloved Philadelphia Eagles are headed to the Super Bowl. The HR director sent out an email that ignored how hard everyone has been working and told us that we can't take Super Bowl Sunday off, and anybody who does will be suspended without pay. Ugh. Just thank us and encourage us to put the patients first!

NAY to the lack of public transportation linking New Hampshire to Boston causing me to spend 30 minutes searching for parking and being late to the Chris Hayes book event. But YAY to Chris for giving me the ultimate insider’s inside message in my book! He signed it “That’s a Tuna, Bro! From TBTL Bidet Correspondent Chris Hayes.”

NAY to the modern healthcare system! My primary care doctor referred me to an orthopedic clinic. The orthopedic PA then referred me to a surgeon. When I called the surgeon’s office, they said they only accept referrals from my primary care doctor, thus rendering the whole orthopedic clinic consultation a waste of time and money. NAY!

NAY to the people who walk into our restaurant, past the blazing neon signs, and through our unlocked door, and stand in the middle of our dining room where people are eating, and then ask “are you guys open?” (A quick YAY to all the lovely people who ask us “what should we do with our trash?”  Our answer is always “leave it there, we’ll take care of it.” But it positively warms our hearts when you ask!)

There you have it! As far as inaugural rollouts of “Yays and Nays” are concerned, I think this went splendidly, and I’d love to make this a regular feature! Anytime you want to show some appreciation or get something off your chest, please email me and put “Yay” or “Nay” in the subject line.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend full of many yays and very few nays. Luke and I will talk to you Monday!
