I may never say “oh no” the same way ever again.

Hello, everyone! It’s me, Andrew, from TBTL! I hope this email finds you well.

I’m not sure where you are on your TBTL listening these days. You might be someone who is weeks or months behind. Or maybe you skip around a bit and don’t listen to every episode. That’s fine! I’m not here to judge you. As long as you read every word of every TBTL newsletter, you’re good in my book.

But I want to tell you about some tape we played on the show recently, and how it may have changed my life (or at least my vocabulary) forever. 

On Wednesday’s podcast, Luke introduced me to a viral video that had escaped my radar. It’s a TV news interview with two Australian twins who witnessed a car jacking. While the story itself is quite harrowing, it’s the twins’ presentation that caused a stir.

Bridgette and Paula Powers are relatively well-known in Australia. They run a bird sanctuary and were friends with the late crocodile hunter Steve Irwin. They dress alike and style themselves alike and talk alike. In fact, they don’t just talk alike; They talk in unison. If you haven’t seen the original video yet, check it out here:

Now, I find that clip to be both fascinating and charming. But that’s not the video that’s gotten stuck in my head. It’s the TikTok parody that we opened Thursday’s show with that I can’t shake. And based on the number of emails and texts I’ve received about it, I’m guessing it struck a chord with a lot of you, too. 

I’m not a big TikerToker, so I don't have any background information on the comedians who made this. All I know is that Luke sent this to me on Wednesday night, and I’ve watched it approximately 400 times since then. 

Nobody knows exactly what the future holds for any of us.  But one thing I know for sure is that I’m probably going to say “OR NOR!” instead of “OH NO!” for the rest of my life. And I consider that to be a positive development. 

Speaking of positive developments (how do you like that transition?), I've really been enjoying our new newsletter feature “Yays and Nays,” and I think we’re about due for another installment next week. Listener Cara: Love Story (You and Me) - Harry Nilsson

Since you were on the topic of Randy Newman recently, it made me think about another record, tangentially related: Nilsson Sings Newman. As the title suggests, it's just Harry Nilsson covering Randy Newman songs in a spare and lovely way. I thought I'd suggest track two, "Love Story (You and Me)." It also strikes me as a version of the song that Luke would like - sweet and sentimental.

Andrew: Vitamin C - CAN

I rewatched part of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice last weekend. While literally nobody (including Thomas Pynchon himself) has any idea what’s actually happening in that movie, it’s impossible to deny that its vibes are pristine, starting with the opening sequence that uses this classic CAN tune perfectly. I know very little about CAN or krautrock in general, other than the fact that all my cool college friends loved to geek-out on it. Someday I’ll go down a rabbit hole on the topic, I’m sure. But in the meantime, I’ll just continue to putter around singing “You’re losing, you’re losing, you’re losing, you’re losing…your vitamin C!” It’s a real earworm.

Luke is happy to learn that the Mariners brought “Louie Louie” back to the ballpark, but all is not quite what it seems. He also wants to tell Andrew about a sign he saw in a hotel, but they just keep talking about new TV shows instead.

Friday, April 25
Andrew received a note from his garbage collector yesterday. Now he needs to figure out the proper response.
