We’re going to take it nice and easy today. Nicccccee and easy, and everything will be just fine.

Right?

Hey everybody! And welcome to the latest installment of the TBTL weekly newsletter. I hope this email finds you well.

Animated gif Peter Griffin from Family Guy slowly and carefully taking a first step down a staircase, just to quickly fall.

You may not have seen a newsletter from me last week. Now, to be clear, I’m not saying that I didn’t send you a newsletter last week. I’m just saying you might not have seen it. That’s because I’ve apparently developed a bad reputation around these parts, and the internet police are trying to protect you from me.

I can’t say exactly what’s happening to my emails, because I’m scared that if I describe it properly, this email will get flagged, too. But let’s just say that instead of going into your inbox, my newsletters are going directly into a folder that rhymes with “ham” but is more associated with Hawaiian delicacies.

Not only that, but whoever makes these decisions (a cranky robot with a steely scowl, no doubt) seems to think that I like fishing a lot. Only not with an “F”, and not with a hook and a worm, if you know what I mean.

So what do we do about this? Well, we make today’s newsletter as safe as humanly possible. We include no links to outside websites. We don’t mention any kind of products or potential transactions. And we certainly, CERTAINLY don’t use any of the following words:

REDACTED
REDCATED
REDACTED
and/or REDACTED
REDACTED
Dongle
REDACTED

And just to underscore just how harmless this email is, I’m including this picture of two otters holding hands.

A picture of two otters holding hands as they float on their backs sleeping.

Okay, here’s hoping that this will keep the internet police off my back for a while, and that this email will slide into your inbox as easily as I slip into my tonight pants at 4:30pm on a winter afternoon.

I also hope you all have a fun weekend that is just as safe as this newsletter. And if all goes well, Luke and I will talk to you on Monday!

Andrew

Ten Of The Week

What’s your name and where do you live?
Jesse Carter. Emeryville, CA.

When did you start listening to TBTL? How did you find the show?
I'm not certain of the exact timing or how I came across the podcast, but I found it some time in late 2011, and have been a Ten ever since.

How would your friends describe you?
Thoughtful and fun, I hope.

What was your favorite cereal when you were a kid? Is it still your fav?
Capt. Crunch, no crunch berries. Capt. Crunch will always be my fav. I am not huge cereal consumer at this point, but I am also not going to turn down a bowl if one was offered.

What food do you love to eat the most of?
Pizza. Pizza rules all.

What’s the best or worst nickname you ever had?
"Red" was the worst. Kids called me Red because I had a ruddy complexion as a kid. I was not a fan. The best and longest lasting remains "J-Town".

If you could play one song on TBTL, what would it be?
Country Girl by Greet Death. They are amazing and more people should be talking about them.

What’s a special skill that you have?
I have pretty great will power, which I've learned is immensely helpful in life.

What’s a skill you *wish* you had?
I love playing music and I wish I had studied it more when I was younger so I could be more Hendrix-like now.

If you were driving down the street and you saw Luke and Andrew on the sidewalk, what would you yell at them as you drove past?
Probably attempt to be funny and yell "Hey Dummies!" Then feel embarrassed and rethink all my life decisions.

Can other Tens find you on social media?
I'm not one for social media, but I do run a record collecting club in the Bay Area, and if one were so inclined they could find us a bayarearecordcollectors.com.

Hey, it’s Andrew here again. Just a reminder that you can find our Ten of the Week form here! If you’ve never been a TOTW before  (or if it’s been a really, really long time) fill out our little questionnaire. And check out our Ten of the Week archive here!

This Week On TBTL

#4639 More Sasquatch Than Man
Monday, January 12
Andrew is spending time in Las Vegas so TBTL Employee Numero Uno, Jon Sklaroff, jumps on the line to check in with Luke about what's happening in the Twin Cities and the podcast world after the first ever Golden Globe was awarded for podcasting. Also, the guys wonder if husband of Best Actress winner, Rose Byrne, fellow actor Bobby Cannavale, was justified in not attending the awards ceremony.

#4640 Park A Mile In My Shoes
Tuesday, January 13
David From The Basement drops by to hangout with Luke and Jon as Andrew enjoys more time in Vegas. The guys discuss kids being kids at the airport, Seahawks' football, and they're unable to determine what region of the country Missouri is a part of.

#4641 Low Key, It’s Not Giving “Angel Of Death”
Wednesday, January 14
Andrew is back from his first-ever trip to Las Vegas, and he has all the details Luke is dying to hear.

#4642 Just Raisin Questions
Thursday, January 15
Luke and Andrew learn that they may be sitting on some valuable old pennies…they just need to check their spare change jars. They also discuss self-driving rectangles and the California Raisins.

#4643 Subterfuge In Space
Friday, January 16
NASA is going through great efforts to conceal the identity and symptoms of an astronaut who got sick in space, which leads Luke and Andrew to assume the worst (e.g., an alien invasion.) They also discuss Andrew’s new life-hack for getting to the airport (spoiler alert: It’s driving.)
