We’re about one week away from our live “Tradio” episode, and I understand that you have some questions. The good news is, I have some answers.

Hello, by the way! It’s me, Andrew, from TBTL. I hope this email finds you well.

Next Saturday, as you know, Luke and I are going to broadcast a special episode of TBTL where we open the phone lines and take calls from folks who are looking to sell things, buy things, and give things away. It’s our homage to the classic “tradio” format that Luke and I love so much.

You know the basics by now: We’re going live at 10am PT on Saturday, April 19th. You  can watch and listen live via our YouTube page. And you can call-in using the TBTL hotline at (206) 414-TBTL (8285)

However, folks still have a lot of questions about how this is all going to go down. So I put together this handy FAQ guide:

Can I sell or give away anything I want?
Yes, as long as it’s yours to sell or give away legally.

Can I call if I’m looking for something in particular, like decorative stones for my garden?
You sure can.

How will you connect me to the buyer or seller?
We won’t! If you are selling something, you have to provide your contact information on-air. You can share your phone number or - more likely - your email address. You might want to create a new email address if you don’t want to give out your private info.

Can I sell a service, like a tarot card reading or clarinet lessons or free hugs?
No, this is about clearing out your closets and garages and getting rid of old stuff.

You’re sure I can’t offer free hugs?
I’m very sure.

Can I sell my old bicycle?
Yes!

Can I sell my neighbor’s bicycle?
No.

Can I ask for a million dollars?
No. Please don’t call in and ask for money.

Can I sell a pot of gold?
I guess, but be sure to price it accordingly and report it to the IRS, if the IRS and/or the United States still exists by the time you read this.

Can I give away an old mattress?
No, that’s gross.

Can I sell a new mattress?
Yes, but you better not be lying about it being new.

I don’t have anything to buy or sell. Can I call anyway, just to say hello?
Please don’t. We want to keep this focused on Tradio. But we’ll have more opportunities for you to call in this summer!

Can I prank call the show?
No, Phyllis, you can’t prank the show. We’ll be looking out for your number.

Will the show stay on YouTube after the live broadcast?
Yes, and we’ll also podcast the audio the following Monday.

Okay, I think that should address all your questions! If I missed anything, though, just hit me up via email and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Let’s leave it there for now, folks! The sun is popping up out of the clouds, and I want to take a walk before the Mariners game begins.

I hope you all have a great weekend! Luke and I will talk to you on Monday.

— Andrew

Music For Your Weekend

Listener Justine: Heavy Metal by Cindy Lee

I just discovered this 2020 gem and wanted to share it. It's dreamy lo-fi that sounds like it's from decades ago. They're purposely not on Spotify which I kinda love. Also they put out a double-album in 2024, Diamond Jubilee, that got a very high 9.1 rating from Pitchfork (I know I know, but their ratings of guitar bands tends to work for me). Haven't had time to listen to Diamond Jubilee yet but am looking forward to it.

Andrew: Planet Claire by The B-52s

I spent most of today’s podcast talking about my love of this song and this video. Suffice it to say, you don’t want to get me started on this topic again.

Ten Of The Week

What’s your name and where do you live?
Kelly shannon. Edmonds, WA.

When did you start listening to TBTL? How did you find the show?
I’ve been listening since the radio days!

How would your friends describe you?
A bit OCD cleaning-wise. A bit of a Martha, as in Martha Stewart. I love gardening and cooking and having fun garden parties. But hopefully, they’d say I’m fun to be around!

What was your favorite cereal when you were a kid? Is it still your fav?
Grape Nuts. I enjoyed the fact that they ripped my upper mouth to shit! Weird, I know.

What food do you love to eat the most of?
Cheese, cheese and more cheese! Sorry, Andrew.

What’s the best or worst nickname you ever had?
Worst as a kid was Kelly Belly. But as an adult, I love that some of my friends call me Kel Bel. Some even call me Martha. Or Mrs. Brown. (I used to wear a LOT of brown.)

If you could play one song on TBTL, what would it be?
Big White Cloud by John Cale. It’s a song from the early 70’s that was introduced to me by my husband, long ago. It’s so beautiful.

What’s a special skill that you have?
I just recently learned to weave on a floor loom. I never thought I would be able to learn anything creative and artsy at my age, except in the gardening and cooking realm. But I’m really proud of what I’ve created, so far! I’m learn-ding!

What’s a skill you *wish* you had?
I wish I could play a musical instrument. Any. Musical. Instrument.

If you were driving down the street and you saw Luke and Andrew on the sidewalk, what would you yell at them as you drove past?
Two bros, bro-ing it up!

Hey, it’s Andrew here again. Just a reminder that you can find our Ten of the Week form here! If you’ve never been a TOTW before  (or if it’s been a really, really long time) fill out our little questionnaire. And check out our Ten of the Week archive here!

#4439 The Eyes Have It
Monday, April 7
Luke went back to the eye doctor on Friday, and whooooo-boy. He has an update. Plus, Andrew has been thinking a lot about original sin and text message etiquette (unrelated.) And Coach Ben sends in a recap of the TBTL Junior Sluggers’ first game!

#4440 HOV Actually
Tuesday, April 8
Luke and Andrew each have questions about today’s “Rants and Raves” column in the Seattle Times…including whether or not Luke was the target of a rant. They also receive an important Public Service Announcement from television’s Chris Hayes.

#4441 Mother Tootin’ Son Of A Biscuit!
Wednesday, April 9
Andrew is mulling over a recent interaction he had with a sales person and he’s not liking what he’s mulling. Plus, an American YouTuber was arrested for visiting a remote Indian island and leaving a can of soda behind. And another rant in the Seattle Times has left Luke confused.

#4442 This Is So Boarding And Forever Taking
Thursday, April 10
Andrew finally opens up about his relationship with Guitar Center. Luke is $4.98 richer after finding himself on the winning side of a class-action suit. And young people are going nutso over a specific line in the new Minecraft movie.

#4443 Better Off Fred

Luke finally watched the White Lotus finale and has thoughts. Andrew regrets deleting his Bluesky post about the B-52s. And we all learn a valuable lesson about the Blue Angels of yesteryear.
