Obviously, Luke and I are both pretty excited to root for our Seattle Seahawks in the big game on Sunday. But we don’t presume that you share all our same interests. Some of you -- many of you, even -- lead rich, textured lives with diverse interests that go well beyond sports. So you might be looking for something else to do on Sunday while the rest of America gorges on chicken wings, overproduced TV commercials, and even more overproduced touchdown celebrations. That’s why I’ve spent the past couple of hours scouring the internet for other activities you can enjoy this coming Sunday, depending on where you’re located. (Unfortunately, because of ongoing issues with our email system, I’ve had to remove all links from this week’s newsletter. But all of the following listings are quite real, and can be found with a simple search.) If you are one of our newish listeners in the Friendship, Wisconsin, area, take a drive out to the Dells for a Wick and Wine Candle Workshop at Fawn Creek Winery. Learn to make candles while you sip a nice chardonnay or malbec or whatever wine pairs best with wax work. If you’re in Iowa City, Iowa, you can take advantage of a soldering workshop called the Soldering Sampler. “Learn and hone a variety of soldering skills, including connecting an open jump ring, adding a ring to another piece, and more.” It’s not cheap, though. Only one seat is left, and it’ll cost you $88. The Cool Beans Cafe in Medina, Ohio, is hosting a Vegetarian and Gluten Free Soup Flight Event for all you meatless broth heads. The Park Theatre in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, is screening Titanic: The Musical. If you already bought tickets for the January 25th screening that was cancelled due to snow, your tickets will automatically be updated for Sunday’s rescheduled showing. The Oklahoma City Museum of Osteology is holding a hands-on, 7-hour taxidermy class that starts at 10am. This week’s animal -- apparently in honor of Valentine’s day? -- is a rat. Dart tossers in Southern Alaska are gathering at the Kenai Elks lodge for the annual Cabin Fever Reliever tournament. The lodge is located at 205 Barnacle Way. Contact Jeff Olson for more information. You can also take part in the Self-Care Scavenger Hunt on the Minot Air Force Base in Ward County, North Dakota. I don’t know what that means, exactly, but it looks like it’s part of something called The Hot Habits Series, if you’re into that sort of thing. Did someone say PET PARADE? The animal rescue folks at Barkus & Meoux are holding their annual fundraiser at the Louisiana Downs Casino & Racetrack in Bossier City. This year’s event, entitled “Wicked and Wagging”, is Wizard of Oz themed and promises to “usher in Mardi Gras season under a spell of green and pink.” If you’re closer to State College, Pennsylvania, you can learn Flower Arranging Basics from an instructor named Maria. All materials will be included, and it’s totally free! Sounds like everything’s coming up roses. And, of course, folks in the greater Spokane area here in Washington State can enjoy Afternoon Tea at the Historic Davenport Hotel, which invites you to a “celebration of culinary artistry and the finest teas, curated to provide a sensory journey for guests and inspired by Spokane’s nickname, the Lilac City.” I didn’t know Spokane was “the Lilac City!” I love that. Anyway, there are some non-Super Bowl activities for you, if you’re so inclined. I hope I didn’t leave anything out. Oh, wait! I forgot about the 2nd Annual New Jersey Reptile and Exotic Animal Show at VFW Post 2179 in Port Monmouth! It’s one day only, so don’t miss out. Okay, now THAT should do it. However you spend your Sunday, I hope you enjoy it! As for me? I’ll be pacing a hole in the carpet at the back of my local Eagles aerie and yelling, “EVERYONE SHUT UP!” when the commercial breaks start.
